Fins Join CBS4's Neighbors To Help Family In Need

Nicole Maristany
FORT LAUDERDALE (CBS4) ― In football, scoring a touchdown is often referred to as "taking it to the house", and in this week's Neighbors 4 Neighbors In Your Community report, the Miami Dolphins Foundation teamed up with other community players to help a South Florida family move into their new home.

"I can't wait to see the faces of the family we are helping," said Brian Hartline of the Miami Dolphins.

The Miami Dolphins and Rooms To Go teamed up with Neighbors 4 Neighbors to donate furniture to a deserving family in need.

"Difficult times for everybody and when you hear about people who are moving into their first new home and it's empty in there, and to be able to fill it, and hopefully send this family, and these kids on a track that they'll never look back," said Warren Kornblum of Rooms To Go.

The Perrys, a family of nine, just moved into their first home in Fort Lauderdale after completing the Homeless to Homeowner program.

"We came a long way; we lived in a shelter before, you know it's been so rough for us and for us to have this opportunity, I mean there's no words," said mom Kimberly Perry.

It was a community effort to help make the Perry's new house a home.

"As you are able to have the private and the public sector both unite together to see this thing occur," said Greg Brewton of the City of Ft. Lauderdale.

When asked about the best part of the entire experience, the kids responded in unison, "my room!"

Then, they all gave a final seal of approval and appreciation, "It's awesome, and it's cool. Thank you!"
