Little Boy With Big Heart Helps Feed The Needy

Joshua McClean Is The Founder Of Joshua's Heart Foundation

Joshua's Heart Foundation Is A Non-Profit Organization That Collects Food And Distributes It To Those In Need

He's Been Doing It Since He Was Five
MIAMI (CBS4) ― A little boy with a big heart is helping feed the needy in South Florida during the final week of the Neighbors 4 Neighbors Food 4 South Florida campaign.

It's a Friday afternoon in July, a time when most kids are at camp, or playing with friends. But a church in Miami Gardens is where 8-year old Joshua Williams wants to spend his day.

Joshua is the founder of Joshua's Heart Foundation, a non-profit organization that collects food and distributes it to those in need.

"We have soup, ravioli, spaghetti for the kids," Joshua describes.

Joshua's mom, Claudia McClean, helped him get started three years ago when he was just five. His desire to help the hungry began when he saw a commercial on TV - images of hungry children – asking you to sponsor one.

"I saw these children, and they were skinny, they didn't have any food or houses, anything and I felt very sad," Joshua told CBS4's Erika von Tiehl. He went on to explain that he wanted to "make everybody in the world have food, so that they can live."

And the reason little Joshua wants to help?

"Cause I'm fortunate, than the other people and I want to make the other people fortunate too," Joshua said.

Joshua's Heart Foundation holds a food drive every month and although it seems like they have a lot of food, the foundation has been hit by the bad economy.

"We usually give more than this, this is like, a third or so less than we normally give," Joshua's mother explained.

One thing not in short supply is volunteers of all ages; lots of Joshua's friends come in to help out.

"So, they see the people coming in and they realize that here I can actually be doing something to help, to give back, so it makes a difference," Claudia said.

Joshua has already made a big difference in hundreds of lives, but he's not stopping until one thing happens, "Everybody in the world, not be hungry anymore," exclaimed Joshua.

Joshua's busy schedule includes several speeches a month and usually one food drive a month. To help Joshua continue his work in our community, join the Neighbors 4 Neighbors Food 4 South Florida Food Drive by clicking here or call Neighbors at (305) 597-4404.

After all, Joshua said it best, "We need more donations, so we can get more food and help more people."
