Local Nightclubs To Raise Funds For Burned Teen

FORT LAUDERDALE (CBS4) ― A South Florida night club is the latest business to hold a fundraiser to help the family of a Deerfield Beach boy who was intentionally set on fire.

Fifteen year old Michael Brewer suffered burns over two-thirds of his body when five other teens set him on fire after a dispute over money, according to BSO detectives. Brewer remains at Jackson Memorial Hospital. The hospital says despite the fact that Brewer's family has insurance, it will not cover many expenses.

On Sunday, November 15th, the Booby Trap will host its Inaugural Poker Run. All of the proceeds benefit Michael Brewer with the help of CBS4's Neighbors 4 Neighbors.

The Poker Run starts around 10:00 a.m. at the Booby Trap in Doral and ends at the Booby Trap in Pompano Beach.

Whether your drive or ride, all Road Warriors are welcome to participate for the $500 best hand Grand Prize and $150 to the worst hand.

Tuesday night, Galuppi's restaurant, located at 1103 North Federal in Pompano Beach, donated all bar proceeds from 5 p.m. to closing along with donations from customers.

Last weekend, the Sand Bar in Coconut Grove had a special promotion; customers who bought a t-shirt for $25 received $50 worth of drinks. All of the proceeds from theT-shirt sales were donated to the family.

Firehouse Subs franchisees is collecting donations through Nov. 1 at each of its 13 South Florida locations to benefit Michael and his family. Stores are located in Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties.

Deerfield Beach firefighters will also hold a fundraiser from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Nov. 7 at CJ's Draft House, at the corner of Hillsboro Boulevard and Military Trail. Plans for the event will include a bounce house, dunk tank and face painting. All the money collected at the event will go toward Michael's family. The event is presented by CJ's Draft House and the Deerfield Beach Fire and Rescue Benevolent Association.

CBS4's Neighbors 4 Neighbors is also collecting donations through the Family Fund for Michael Brewer.
