Group Has Neat Stuff For Kids In Need

MIAMI (CBS4) ― "Clothes mean everything. The fact that they have to look the same way other kids look is very important to them and that's exactly what Neat Stuff gave them."

For mothers like Margale Vargas staples like affordable clothing can be hard to come by.

"With the economy, trying to keep up with the bills and being a single parent, it really, really helps," said Franklin Monjarrez, Neat Stuff's executive director.

Neat Stuff is a small non-profit dedicated to helping South Florida students in need.

"Our vision is to provide brand new articles of clothing to kids that really need our assistance," said Monjarrez. "The middle class continues to shrink and clients that have never had the need to seek out assistance from a social service agency like Neat Stuff are now walking into our doors. It's a difficult experience for them, but it could happen to anyone. It could happen to you, or to me."

Monjarrez said the key is in the clothing – a new shirt can do wonders for a student's self esteem.

The Vargas sisters, who've been helped by Neat Stuff, heartily agree.

"Some people can't afford it and they should look good anyways," said Karina Vargas.

Even if you are not a parent, looking good for school is something everyone understand and everyone can do something about.

"Each of us can go out and provide for a child right here in our community, you have the power to make a difference," said Monjarrez. "It doesn't take much, an article of clothing, some volunteer time, it's within you."
