"Ideal" Solution For Rocking Chair Dilemma

Ideal Baby and Kids Came To The Rescue

Neighbors 4 Neighbors

MIAMI (CBS4) ― It's the story of a good deed - gone wrong. CBS4 Neighbors 4 Neighbors first brought you this story about a local mother's generous donation of rocking chairs to Miami Children's Hospital a few months ago - and we're happy to say that although the gift got off to a "rocky" start - this story has a very happy ending.

Ana Maria Ariagga spent many days and nights at Miami Children's Hospital as her then preemie daughter, Luciana, recovered from heart surgery in the cardiac intensive care unit. That's when she noticed the need for comfortable chairs for sleep-less parents to spend time with their babies.

On Luciana's first birthday, Ana Maria purchased six thousand dollars worth of rocking chairs for the hospital - but CICU would never receive the donation.

The furniture store she bought them from went out of business - taking the money that was meant as a gift with them.

A gift the CICU was in desperate need of, according to Nurse Mary Ernst who said, "We were really looking forward to this donation so that the parents are able to hold their children comfortably as they recover from this surgery."

But another South Florida business - Ideal Baby and Kids - heard Ana Maria's story and stepped up to make the donation a reality - and this week, ten brand new gliding rocking chairs were rolled in.

Martha Rodriquez of Ideal Baby and Kids was happy to have helped the hospital, and excited on delivery day. She noted the difference the furniture made on the CICU floor, saying, "each of the rooms essentially has their own glider."

But that's not all, when American Express heard about Ana Maria's donation debacle - they refunded the money lost to the first furniture store.

Ana Maria then donated the refunded money to Miami Children's. So what began as a gift gone wrong ended up as a double donation!
