Fire rescue officials helped rescue three boys and a man off the Haulover inlet Tuesday afternoon, after their small boat capsized.
Beachgoers who saw what was going on summoned lifeguards, who swam to the boys to render them aid. Crews aboard a Miami-Dade Fire Rescue boat then pulled the boys who had life preservers out of the water. A commercial salvage company also helped with the rescue efforts on scene.
"There was a big wave, we went down but when we went under there was another wave beside us," said a nine year-old who went overboard. He and his cousins were scared, clinging onto the upside down boat that they had been fishing on moments ago. Even with their life vests they were becoming exhausted as the waves continued to hit them.
The three boys and man were taken to the nearby marina where they were assessed the damage and talked to officials about how it happened. No injuries were reported.
Officials believe they may have been going into the inlet, at a time when the tide at this channel of water was pushing them out in the opposite direction.
