Kite Surfer Says He Doesn't Remember Accident

FORT LAUDERDALE (CBS4) ― Tropical Storm Fay sent Kevin Kearney flying from the beach into a building, but more than a week later the man seen on video all over the world says he doesn't remember going for the ride of his life.

"I love this place. No regrets on the accident.

For a man who survived a near death experience, Kearney is undeterred. The kite surfer who gained internet infamy after being dragged across the sand on Ft. Lauderdale Beach, and hurled into a nearby building, says he will strap on a kite board again. He spoke to Inside Edition.

"That's the first time this has happened to me and hopefully the last time," Kearney told the news magazine show.

Kearney returned to the beach where he caught serious air during Tropical Storm Fay for the interview. Even though he's walking, he faces a long recovery.

He fractured bones, got cut up, and tubes in his throat to induce a coma left him hoarse. As for the accident, Kearney's only seen the pictures.

"Unfortunately, I don't remember a whole lot about the actual accident even though I have seen it on video," he said.

He may not recall the moment or those immediately after when friends and paramedics rushed to help, but Kearney does know his good fortune.

"Luckily I didn't hit a big wall at that kind of speed. It looks like the ground took some of my fall."

It took his fall, and possibly saved his life.

Kearney says he is an experienced kite boarder, but admits he wasn't wearing a helmet and wasn't aware of the dangerous weather.

Kearney's parents admit this video has been difficult to watch. As for Kearney's decision to continue his kite surfing career, his mother told CBS4 News she would prefer him not to, but she knows he loves it.
