A South Florida hotel is launching a campaign to fight breast cancer. The Fontainebleau Resort has pulled off a glamorous grand opening. They have hosted the hottest celebrities. They have even broadcasted a lingerie show across the globe, but none of it compares to what the Fontainebleau is up to now.
"I am very proud to be a part of the Blue Goes Pink campaign for the Fontainebleau," said Mabel De Beunza, an employee grateful the hotel is joining in the battle.
From the hotel's signature spa to their renowned restaurants to their lovely libations, the Fontainebleau is teaming up with Susan G. Komen to battle breast cancer with deals and donations.
"It became something that was tangible and real for everyone around the table," said De Beunza of the staff meeting leading up to the launch. De Beunza may be the director of communications, but she is especially proud of her company's message. De Buenza's grandmother lost her battle against breast cancer.
The hotel hopes to be successful this October. They are donating part of their proceeds
from their restaurants $39 set menu specials and a special $10 drink called the "Pinky Promise." The hotel also has designed a t-shirt where half of the proceeds go to fight breast cancer.
The campaign has even extended to the famous "Blue Bar." The hotel floors, which are normally blue, are turning pink to mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
"My grandmother was everything. She was the man, the woman, and the grandmother of the family," said De Beunza who is joined by other employees who were also proud of the resort's effort.
"It actually means something to me because my mom had breast cancer," said John Sculey, a chef at Gotham Steak. His mother survived. "I think if you are a believer in whatever you do, you are going to be successful."
It is a great cause close to so many people's hearts. "I can't go back. I can't bring her back, but if in her memory, I can hold a strong a conviction towards bringing something greater to everyone else, then that is what this means to me," said De Beunza.
