A Celebrity Surprise
I, like many people, was very surprised to learn that actress Christina Applegate had breast cancer. It's all the more surprising because she's only 36-years-old and she looks healthy. But as we've learned in the past, breast cancer doesn't discriminate. And sometimes, young, healthy women are diagnosed with the disease. Applegate told one interviewer she "was so mad" when she learned she had breast cancer but then she went into the mode of fixing it.
Applegate didn't want to take any chances in the future, so she had a bilateral mastectomy. Now she's 100% clear of cancer. She says the cancer did not spread and she is NOT going to die from breast cancer.
Wouldn't it be great if we could all say that? "I will NOT die from breast cancer." In fact, that's the goal of the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, which is taking place on Saturday, October 18th at Bayfront Park in Downtown Miami. If you've never taken part, I urge you to make this year the year you start.
I promise you if you do go, you'll be empowered by all of the people you see there "racing" for the same cause. The survivors will inspire you to live every day to the fullest. I get a big lump in my throat when all the survivors cram onto the stage so that we can applaud them. It's a moment you don't want to miss! It's great to see the community come together in such a significant way.
Even though I'm pregnant with twins now and likely won't be running the course this year, I'll be there. I wouldn't miss it! I hope to see you there!
