The Living Miracle
Hello Friends!
I recently interviewed former Broward Sheriff's Deputy Maury Hernandez who many call a living miracle. He was shot in the head last August and was not expected to survive. But he did and in fact he's walking, talking, even joking with people around him. What makes Maury different from others facing the same medical challenges? I believe, and so does Maury, that the diffence was that he refused to let the doctors dictate to him his outcome. He pushed forward, with encouragement from his Mother who told him that he COULD do it. Maury BELIEVED he could do it. It's the power of the mind.
We've heard a lot recently about how a positive attitude can impact your life and your health. Oprah's been talking about "The Secret" and now Eckhart Tolle's book "A New Earth" is another book on the topic. Medical experts are often amazed at the impact that having the will to live can have on a patient.
That's why I think the inaugural Well Being/Being Well Conference being put on by the University of Miami Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center is so important. I encourage you to sign up for it - it's taking place April 22nd at the Hotel Intercontinental.
Deepak Chopra will be speaking during the lunch. He has written more than 40 books about the relationship between the mind, body and spirit. I had a chance to interview him a couple of years ago - and he recommended our viewers take that time in the shower every day to calm the mind, instead of running through the endless "To Do List." You're not getting anything done in the shower anyways - except getting clean. It's such a small thing - but can make a difference in your day. I can't wait to hear what he has to say during the lunch.
Another part of the Conference is breakout sessions. The topics range from "Can Cancer Be Prevented" to "Raising Healthy Children and Proactive Parents." There's also "How to Feel Better" and "Creating your Personal Life Plan." I will be moderating a session about "Women's Health - The First Half of Life." Don't worry, I'll be asking the medical experts there the questions. They'll be answering them.
I hope to see you for the Well Being/Being Well Conference. Until then - be well!
