MIAMI (CBS4) ―
Panthers forward David Booth was released from a downtown Philadelphia Hospital on Sunday, a day after a scary hit left him motionless on the ice.

Booth only sustained a concussion and some facial cuts, but will be out for at least a week.

The hit, which came from Flyers captain Mike Richards in the second period, sent Booth flying. Booth, 25, was motionless for several minutes, but was alert while being taken off the ice on a stretcher with his neck in a brace.

Richards wasn't fined or suspended, but explained after the game that his hit was nowhere near intentional.

Panthers' general manager Richard Sexton and players Bryan Allen and Keith Ballard thought it was.

"The guy had his head down, in vulnerable position and Richards knows it," Ballard told CBS WFOR news partner The Miami Herald after the 5-1 loss.

"He went after him. He's done it before. It's the same thing the NHL is trying to put an end to. He tried to hurt him."

Florida is 2-6-1 and has gotten off to a poor start for the second straight season.

Booth re-signed with the Panthers during the summer, and has three points (two goals, one assist).
