Texas Dogs Rescued From Ike's Fury Up For Adoption
More Than 20 Dogs Now At The Broward Humane Society Made Homeless From Hurricane Ike Will Be Looking For Homes
FORT LAUDERDALE (CBS4) ―
More than twenty dogs rescued from Texas after Hurricane Ike hit the state earlier in September are available for adoption at the Humane Society of Broward.
Kea's a dog that has been on the move ever since Hurricane Ike barreled over his home in Texas. Now, he's looking for just a little affection.
On Wednesday evening, a team from the Broward society brought back approximately 25 dogs which were abandoned by their owners in Galveston, Texas, after Hurricane Ike destroyed their homes.
"All these animals, they had families at one time. Families that probably did not want to give them up. They were forced to because of the situation," Humane Society employee Cherie Wachter explained, "He's just looking for a family that's going to give him a good home for the rest of his life."
From the little, timid dogs to the playful, outgoing puppies, they all just want a place to go home.
Lilly's one of the lucky ones. Adela Avila saw her and knew she was the dog she wanted. "I saw her on TV and I said, 'That was it!' I said 'I need to have it, I've been calling since yesterday!'"
Now, Lilly's off to her new home. But remember, there's plenty more looking for love! Some are older pets, who may not be as popular as puppies, but still make great companions.
"It's important to remember that no matter what age the dog or cat you adopt, you know what, they're going to know who loved them and took care of them, no matter how many years they have with you," Wachter said.
