Reptile Creatures Crawl Into South Florida Zoo
MIAMI (CBS4) ―
The largest traveling reptile exhibition in the world, including venomous cobras and lizards, opens on Friday at Miami Metrozoo's indoor museum.
The exhibition brings visitors eye to eye with members of the major groups of living reptiles from around the world that include turtles, crocodilians, lizards, and snakes in naturalistic habitats.
There will be an Alligator snapping turtle luring fish into its mouth with its worm-like tongue and a venomous cobra standing and spreading its neck into a hood.
Visitors will also be able to observe the Gila monster, one of two venomous lizards in the world, the Diamond-back rattlesnake, one of the most dangerous North American snakes and the African Gaboon viper with fangs up to two-inches - the longest of any snake.
The 5,000 square-foot area that will house the reptiles will be open daily from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm, and include interaction with a model rattlesnake, opening and closing the jaws of a motorized Gaboon viper skull, crawling through a giant tortoise shell and more.
