Big Reward Offered In Case Of Abused Pit Bull
Anyone With Information: Call (954) 321-4830.
TAMARAC (CBS4) ―
There's a $5-thousand reward now being offered in connection with a disturbing South Florida animal abuse case.
The Humane Society of the United States is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for mutilating a 5-month-old pit bull who is suspected to have been used as a dog fighting bait dog.
The HSUS is also contributing $1,000 towards the veterinary care of the wounded dog.
The injured and bloodied dog was found on November 26th by members of the Alan Babcock Dog and Cat Rescue.
The severely abused puppy was found on the steps of a residence, near the corner of Oakland Park Boulevard and Andrews Avenue.
The puppy's ears had been torn off, his head was covered in bite marks, and his neck was slit open.
These injuries are consistent with those suffered during dogfights. The veterinarian attending to the pit bull puppy, Dr. Mladenovic, said, "the possible scenario was that the dog was not fit for the dog fights and somebody just wanted to get rid of him. They made a deep cut, thinking that would do the job because there was a lot of bleeding and left him to die."
Mladenovic said the injuries were the worst he had ever seen inflicted on a pet in 20 years of veterinary practice.
"Training animals to kill each other, all for the entertainment and wagering of spectators, is not only brutal, but it fosters violence in communities," said Laurie Maxwell, The HSUS' deputy campaign manger of the animal cruelty and fighting campaign. "Americans have no tolerance for violence against the creatures who share our world."
The Broward Sheriff's Office is still investigating the case. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Detective Michael Vadnal at
(954) 321-4830.
