Neighborhood Dog Nabs Armed Burglar From A Fence

Homeowner's Best Friend Takes Down Suspect For Police

FT. LAUDERDALE (CBS4) ― Two alleged armed burglars chased by police from Collier County tried to escape by jumping over a fence on Thursday in a Ft. Lauderdale community, only to be leaping into the jaws of a neighborhood dog--Brownie, a 2-year-old chow mix who held the man until police arrived.

Adrian A Hardy, 24, Jerry Lee Simmons, 26, both from Ft. Lauderdale were arrested on Thursday after leading police on a pursuit that began on I-75 in Collier County and ended at NW 22 Road and NW 7 Court in Ft. Lauderdale. But no one imagined that a neighborhood dog would be the hero of the day.

"They was trying to get away, so he just chased the bad guys down," said Brownie's owner, Gordine Miller.

The pursuit began with the Collier County Sheriff's Office on I-75 and the suspects eventually exited at Sunrise Blvd., and continued until NW 24 Avenue when the men bailed out of their car at NW 22 Road and NW 7 Court.

Miller was fearful for her pooch.

"I was trying to holler to him, telling him to stop, but I was scared of going over there," she said.

Hardy was subsequently arrested and transported to Broward General Medical Center and then to Broward County Jail. Simmons was arrested as well.
