Three Winged Goose Can't Fly, Needs Home

FT. LAUDERDALE (CBS4) ― You might call it a case of too much of a good thing. A goose taking flight is an amazing sight, its two wings lifting it powerfully into the air. But add a wing, and you have a goose that can't get out of its own way, let alone fly. The goose is in Ft. Lauderdale, and needs a good home.

Wildlife officials say the six-month-old Egyptian goose spent its first months tripping over its spare wing at the Hollywood Beach Golf & Country Club, where it was born. It arrived at the SPCA Wildlife Care Center in Fort Lauderdale in June after a concerned resident called to report a bird in trouble.

The goose underwent surgery shortly after to remove part of its extra wing. A veterinarian says it's likely the victim of a genetic mutation. But even with the surgery, the bird will never be able to fly.

The center's veterinarians hope the goose can eventually tuck in its wing and walk like a normal goose.

For now, though, they're looking to find it a home.
