Palm Garden's Mini Is Hanging Up Her Wheels

AVENTURA (CBS4) ― Her name is Mini and for years the dachshund has been 'hot dogging' it around the halls of the Palm Garden retirement home in Aventura bringing comfort and companionship to its residents.

"Mini is a little doll," said Palm Garden resident Betty Shuster, "it's like holding a baby instead of a dog."

When Mini first arrived at the retirement home years ago, courtesy of the animal group "Friends Forever," she ran, jumped and wagged her tail for the retirees. But over time spine trouble forced therapists to outfit Mini with wheels of her own for her back legs so she could continue to make her rounds.

"She's always happy," said Palm Garden resident Alan Langsbard, "Mini never has a bad day. Never."

Residents say Mini has been a part of every celebration at Palm Garden and now they'll celebrate her retirement.

Mini is getting older, slowing down and her eye sight is failing. She'll be leaving the hustle and bustle of her retirement home duties and settle in to the quiet life at the home of a Palm Garden employee.

While Mini will be a hard act to follow, there's already a new kid on the block named Baby who has some pretty big shoes, or paws, to fill.
