Ilya the wayward manatee is missing.
Wildlife officials say their plan to rescue the manatee from the frigid waters in New Jersey and return it to the warm waters of Florida were put on hold over the weekend after they couldn't find him.
Last week, Ilya had been huddling near at outfall pipe at a Linden refinery to try to stay warm. The last time anyone spotted the manatee was Friday.
Bob Schoelkopf with the Marine Mammal Stranding Center says he hopes Ilya is heading south on his own.
Coast Guard officials and other marine patrol agents have been alerted to watch for the lettuce-loving sea cow. Healthy manatees can travel more than 18 miles in a day.
