6-Year Old Girl Recovering After Pit Bull Attack

FORT LAUDERDALE (CBS4) ― A six-year-old Fort Lauderdale girl is recovering in the hospital after becoming the victim of a pit bull attack.

The child was learning to ride a bike in front of her Fort Lauderdale home on Thursday when she was attacked by her neighbor's dog which had escaped through a hole in the fence.

A good Samaritan saw it happen and helped pry the pit bull's teeth off the child.

According to her grandfather Kenneth Smith, his granddaughter suffered puncture wounds to her back and leg. She is being treated for her injuries at Broward General Medical Center.

Animal Control officials picked up the pit bull late Thursday night. It's not known if the dog will be euthanized.
