Wildlife rescuers were called to John U. Lloyd State Park in Hollywood, Florida, on Thursday to assist a pelican tangled with fishing line and stuck in a tree. Fire rescue workers dispatched vehicles enabling them to reach the bird and take it to a wildlife care center. Witnesses watched from the ground as the pelican stuck high in a tree, hanging from fishing wire, was unclipped and brought down to safety. It had been there for at least two days. "It's really sad. It's been there since Tuesday. I can only imagine what it's going through," commented Icenia Rivas to
CBS4 Ted Scouten.
Workers unfolded a ladder truck at least six stories high to get to the bird.
Once it was safely removed from the tree, the pelican was brought to an emergency animal center in Broward County.
Veterinarians said the bird will be okay.
