There's much buzz about former Governor Jeb Bush running for Mel Martinez's seat, but what about Governor Crist?
"This is one of the most prestigious galleries," Normam Braman was overheard telling Governor Charlie Crist.
The Miami auto tycoon and art patron was showing Crist around the Art Basel exhibits on Thursday. In between art, the governor reflected on a new political canvass.
"Governor, is there a senate run in your future in 2010?" asked
CBS4's Michael Williams.
"Oh no, I don't think so. I think Governor Bush would be a great candidate, and I hope that he runs," said Crist.
Of course, there are shades of color and shades of "No". Most think Crist wants a second term as Florida governors in 2010, not a Senate bid.
"Listen, being governor of Florida is beyond my wildest expectations," said Crist.
Former Florida GOP Governor Jeb Bush is now indicating interest in the seat Mel Martinez has decided to leave after a single term--a shift, however subtle from his views a month ago.
He talked with
CBS4's Jim DeFede on election eve. "I have no intentions to run for anything," said Bush in the interview.
But he didn't bar the possibility of running for public office ever again.
Away from election politics, the state's budget picture is darkening as sales tax revenues plummet. The governor is edging ever closer to calling an emergency special session of lawmakers to cope.
"I think that is not unlikely," said Crist. "I think we will more likely than not in January maybe mid January, something like that."
But before all that there is Crist's wedding day. He and his fiancee Carole Rome will walk down the aisle in St. Petersburg on December 12th.
The state's Chief Financial Officer Alex Sink says she's seriously considering running for the Senate seat in 2010, even if it means running against the powerful Jeb Bush.
