Traveling Bush Exhibit Is Welcomed By Protesters

DORAL (CBS) ― A traveling museum, focusing on President Bush's 8 years in office, came to South Florida, but it wasn't exactly welcome at one shopping plaza in Doral.

The exhibit is inside a bus that made its way to Doral Thursday.

"More of the same Bush - McCain," chanted a group of 50 protestors outside a shopping center. Those protestors were waiting for the bus with an exhibit on board about President Bush's eight years in office.

"It should be very interesting," said Seth Sklarey to CBS4's Jorge Estevez, as they waited for the bus.

Also interesting was the fuss surrounding the bus. Acting on a request, Doral Police kept the traveling bus from making a pit stop.

"It's typical, they don't want to allow freedom of speech," said Sklarey, who is referring to The Shoppes on 25th Street in Doral.

The city of Doral told CBS4 the center sent a letter requesting police help them keep the bus off their private property. In this case the property managers, West-Vest Associates, leases office space to John McCain and Sarah Palin's campaign. So a bus bashing President Bush might not very well be welcomed, but the property management office told CBS4's Jorge Estevez, politics did not play a role in their decision. Instead, they say, there is a day care center at their complex and they were concerned about a political protest.

The bus found somewhere else to park, and people went on board to check out the exhibit. Sklarey finally made it on board to see criticism surrounding eight years of President Bush, courtesy of Americans United for Change.

"What we are doing is looking at the issues and that is the big focus of this bus," Julie Blust, spokesperson for Americans United for Change.

On the bus, the war in Iraq, a calculator that figures the cost of gas over his administration and a machine that breaks down the cost of war per county. In Broward County, the Calculator figured the war cost tax payers more than 3 billion dollars. So while this bus is sending a clear message, it's still up to you to hit the road yourself and vote.

"We always support the president no matter who he is, but we want a president who is better for the people for the economy for the world," said Sklarey.

People are going to be able to board the Bush Legacy Bus all the way through the election. The next stop is Bradenton Florida and then Tampa.
