Voter Registration Deadline Hours Away

Miami-Dade Election Headquarters In Doral Open Until 8 p.m.

Broward's Main Office At 115 S. Andrews Avenue Open Until 9 p.m.

Lauderhill Office At 150 NW 40th Avenue Is Also Open Until 9 p.m.

DORAL (CBS4) ― With the deadline for registering to vote looming, many South Floridians got out of work, some early, and headed straight for the elections office.

"I didn't trust mailing it in, I didn't know if it would get in on time," Robert Day said.

"I was so busy like with work and everything, but I really need to register to vote, I think it's really important," Stephanie Salazar said.

A voter registration drive at Bayfront Park drove that point home. Thousands of new voters registered on Sunday and Monday. They were drawn to the park by free concerts featuring rapper Jay-Z in town to rally for Barack Obama.

But Jay-Z abruptly cancelled Monday's concert, he reportedly strained his throat while singing Sunday. He and Wyclef Jean held a free concert on Sunday called "Last Chance for Change" for anyone eligible to vote.

Monday is the last day to register to vote. You can register to vote at any of the following places:

  • Florida Driver's License Bureau
  • Public libraries
  • In Miami Dade - Team Metro offices
  • Government on the Go buses
  • Any state public assistance agency
  • Any agencies that provide assistance to disabled persons
  • Armed forces recruiting offices

When registering, make sure you bring a form identification like a drivers license or a Social Security card or a proof address, a bank statement or a pay check stub. The general election is less than a month away on November 4th.
