Kudos To CBS4's Story On Alcoholic Energy Drinks

FORT LAUDERDALE (CBS4) ― Our CBS4 investigation into alcohol energy drinks is getting attention from judges, law enforcement, and local officials.

The I-Team's Laurie Stein broke this story, and Thursday she presented her work to dozens of Broward County's movers and shakers at the United Way's County Commission on Substance Abuse. Participants examined cans of Sparks alcoholic energy drink and heard about the latest police sweeps targeting underage drinkers.

"It's shocking, if the parents aren't informed," said Broward Sheriff Al Lamberti. "I think that's a critical thing that your piece did, was inform the parents."

Mother's Against Drunk Driving (MADD) has given Stein's report the National "Award of Excellence" for 2008, surpassing every other local or national TV news report on alcohol abuse. And the non-profit Marin Institute for Alcohol Awareness has awarded CBS4 its national media award as well.
