The unmanned NASA probe Phoenix landed on Mars Sunday evening, May 25th
to begin a three month exploration of the Martian North Pole. These are
some of the first pictures of the Polar region from the surface, sent
by the lander within hours of a near perfect landing. The mission will be finished before Fall arrives in Earth because the oncoming Martian winter will put the pole into a deep freeze, covering the Phoenix in a blanket of carbon dioxide ice.
