NASCAR Race Will Make For A Slow Ride In Homestead
MIAMI (CBS4) ―
Get your motors running, but when you head out on the highway toward the Homestead Miami Speedway this weekend, get ready to slow down. Thousands of NASCAR fans from around the country will swarm to the Homestead Miami Speedway over the course of the three day Ford Championship Weekend.
With all the added drivers funneling south toward Homestead, you can bet that traffic will be thick, particulary after the checkered flag waves following the final championship drag on Sunday night.
The Don Shula Expressway will see heavier traffic in both directions as well as U.S. 1 and Florida's Turnpike in Southwest Miami-Dade.

The best way in and out of the Homestead Miami Speedway will be the Turnpike. U.S. 1 is expected to see extremely heavy congestion throughout the weekend.
If you will be attending any of the Ford Championship events, Speedway officials suggest allowing extra time to get to and from the races. Also, If you have a parking pass, hang it from your mirror before you arrive at the track. Parking lots will open at 7:00 a.m. each morning.
Residents of Southwest Miami-Dade should be prepared for extra foot and auto traffic, and delays all weekend long on the major roadways. Highway construction in the area has been postponed in most cases to accomodate the high volume of NASCAR enthusiasts driving to and from the races.
On Friday, it's the Ford 200 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Championship followed by the Ford 300 NASCAR Nationwide Series Championship on Saturday. The big race weekend wraps up on Sunday with the Ford 400 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Championship.
