Fans Split Over Shaq's Trade To Phoenix

MIAMI (CBS4 News) ―

Shaquille O'Neal, who turns 36 in March, is famous, for the most part, because of his size. His stature has led to various commercials and movies. He's made several rap albums, doesn't shy away from the media, and is said to like the warm weather and Miami, which he called home.

His game of power and intimidation on the basketball court is matched by no other.  After previous stints with the Los Angeles Lakers, and the Orlando Magic. O'Neal has been on four NBA Championship teams, most recently in 2006, with the Miami Heat.

O'Neal is currently sidelined with a hip injury, and t
he Phoenix Suns have acquired the 14-time All-Star from the Miami Heat for forward Shawn Marion and guard Marcus Banks.

One admirer said, "Our fans will miss him. Our fans love him. There's no equal."

Barring any unforeseen issues, he'll be traded to the Suns.

He's been credited with many assists away from the basketball court. In 2005, on Miami Beach, he helped apprehend a suspect who allegedly assaulted a gay couple and alerting police.

The 7-foot-1 Miami Heat center has been a Miami Beach reserve officer.  He's also been an investor in a Miami urban renewal project, along with many other civic duties.

In 2007, after nearly five years of marriage and four children together, O'Neal filed for divorce from his wife Shaunie in Miami. The basketball star makes $20 million a year playing for the Heat, and nets even more through lucrative endorsement deals thought to be worth millions every year. The couple's home on Miami Beach's exclusive Star Island is up for sale for $32 million.
