UM's Harris Named Thorpe Semi-Finalist
MIAMI (CBS4) ―
Miami Hurricane sophomore cornerback Brandon Harris has been named a semifinalist for the annual Jim Thorpe Award. The award is given to the nation's top collegiate defensive back. Harris was a five-star recruit coming out of high school, according to multiple recruiting sites.
Harris has 11 pass breakups and 12 passes defended, both of which put him at number 2 in the country among defensive backs. He's third on the team with 42 tackles so far in 2009 and had nine tackles during the season opening game at Florida State.
Harris has stiff competition for the award including University of Florida defensive back Joe Haden. Harris was named a Midseason First-Team All-American by Sports Illustrated last week.
