Clemson Fires Head Coach Tommy Bowden

CLEMSON, S.C. (CBS4) ― Clemson University finally ran out of patience with their head football coach. Multiple media outlets reported the university has fired Tommy Bowden. The move comes after Clemson's dismal performance so far this season.

The Tigers were many prognosticators pick to win big in the ACC this year. The team looked loaded with talent including a top recruiting class and the so-called "Thunder and Lightning" duo of running backs, C.J. Spiller and James Davis.

Clemson was ranked number 10 in preseason polls. An extremely young Alabama team demolished the team, which then racked up three straight victories against the Citadel, NC State, and South Carolina State.

The team has lost two straight games and the once vaunted offense has looked downright anemic. During last Thursday's game, the Tiger offense couldn't muster more than one touchdown in a losing effort.

Bowden signed a contract extension through 2014 just last December after it was revealed Arkansas was pursuing him for their then vacant head coaching position.

Tommy Bowden finished his tenure at Clemson with a 72-45 record and eight different bowl games appearances.
