Dolphins Defense May Be Thin In The Middle
MIAMI (CBS4) ―
It's hard enough to try and stop Tom Brady and the New England Patriots offense, but now the Miami Dolphins will have to try and do it without two big players in the middle of the defense. Nose guard Jason Ferguson and middle linebacker Channing Crowder are listed as doubtful for the Fins game against the Patriots on Sunday.
Crowder could be the bigger loss as he is essentially the leader of the defense and helps audible out of defenses based upon the offense's formations. The Dolphins were without Crowder's services last week and the Jets pushed around the Miami defense for most of the game.
Ferugson may be the bigger loss, literally and figuratively. Despite his age, 35, Ferguson still requires a double-team on many run plays and leaves the Dolphins defense susceptible to the run. He will be replaced by mammoth 360 lb nose guard Paul Solial, who spent much of his first year under the Parcells regime on the bench.
The Partiots will be missing offensive tackle Matt Light, running back Sammy Morris, and defensive end Jarvis Green. Fellow Pats defensive end Ty Warren is listed as questionable as well.
