Dolphins Trade McCown For Future Draft Pick

MIAMI (AP) ― A day after backup quarterback Matt Moore suffered a leg injury, the Carolina Panthers have acquired veteran Josh McCown from Miami for a future, undisclosed draft pick in 2009.

McCown had signed with the Dolphins in the offseason after starting 33 games in a six seasons in Arizona, Detroit and Oakland. The former third-round pick has thrown 35 touchdowns and 40 interceptions.

McCown could serve as Jake Delhomme's backup if Moore is unable to play in the season opener Sept. 7 at Arizona. Moore suffered a bruised left leg when he was sacked late in the third quarter of Thursday's preseason loss to Pittsburgh.

The move on Friday likely means third-string QB Brett Basanez will be released when the Panthers reduce their roster to 53 players Saturday.
