Fla. Agency Investigating EliteXC Fight

Kimbo Slice lost in 14 seconds to Seth Petruzelli

TALLAHASSEE (CBS4) ― A preliminary investigation into last Saturday night's EliteXC fight has been launched by the state of Florida, according to the San Jose Mercury News.

The Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation, the same department that regulates boxing, is the primary agency investigating.

The main event was scheduled to be between Miami native Kimbo Slice and Ken Shamrock. But, an injury prevented Shamrock from participating in the fight. That led promoters to look for a new opponent.

Event promoters settled on Seth Petruzelli and informed him that he would be fighting Slice in the main event. Petruzelli promptly won the fight in 14 seconds after pummeling Slice so badly, the referee stopped the fight.

The state began investigating after Petruzelli told an Orlando radio station he was pressured promoters to fight Slice on terms that might benefit Slice.

"The promoters kind of hinted to me, and they gave me the money to stand and trade with him. They didn't want me to take him down, let's just put it that way. It was worth my while to try to stand up and punch with him," Petruzelli said.

EliteXC officials have denied the allegations they attempted to fix the contest.
