By Solange Reyner
MIAMI (CBS4) ― Alan Cohen stepped down on Monday as majority owner of the Florida Panthers after months of uncertainty about the club's future.

The team introduced Stu Siegel and Cliff Viner as co-general partners at a press conference, hours before the Panthers played the Los Angeles Kings at the BankAtlantic Center.

Cohen, who led a group of investors to buy the team from Wayne Huizenga's Boca Resorts in 2001, will remain a major partner - he will still own about 25 percent of the team, said WFOR news partner The Miami Herald.

He tried selling the team previously, and a public company was in talks to buy the team. But those negotiations fell through, and Siegel and Viner teamed up to take controlling interest.

"We want to win," Viner said Monday.
"We want to win badly and we want to win as soon as possible."

Siegel played collegiately at Pennsylvania and still plays.

"I've been a lifelong hockey player and hockey fan Since I was a kid, I've always dreamed of hoisting the Stanley Cup over my head. We're going to bring that to South Florida.
