Canes Hit The Field For First Practice

Freshman Receiver Impresses

CORAL GABLES, FL (CBS4) ― The University of Miami football team practiced for the first time Saturday less than 80 degree temperatures at Cobb Stadium.  The heat got the best out of running back Javarris James and defensive lineman Joe Joseph as both left practice due to severe cramps.

" Usually on the first day, you lose about 10 guys (to cramps)," said head coach Randy Shannon who went on to say that if only one guy cramped up, that means we are in really good shape so I'm excited about that. Guys did the right thing last night as far as hydrating themselves."

The team practiced in front of more than 2,000 season ticket holders who also got an opportunity to interact with the team.

One guy the first year coach is raving about is freshman wide receiver Laron Byrd who's got all the skills to be a great player at the position.

" "Laron Byrd made some catches today and we're very excited about him and the way he progressed", said Shannon.
