MIAMI (CBS4) ―
Two nights after dropping 40 on the Washington Wizards, Dwyane Wade enjoyed watching his teammates do the scoring.

Wade had 22 points, and Jermaine O'Neal added 18 as the Miami Heat handed the Denver Nuggets their first loss of the season, 96-88, on Friday night.

Mario Chalmers had 16, Quentin Richardson 13, and Udonis Haslem 11 points and 10 rebounds for the Heat, who snapped an eight game losing streak to Denver.

"As I continue to keep saying, it's going to take that for us to be successful," Wade said. "I enjoyed it. I really did."

Wade got off to a slow start, going 1-for-6 with two turnovers in the first half. He didn't score until there was 1:30 remaining in the second quarter, getting 10 of his points in the fourth.

"That's a challenging team to do that against because they are so quick, they are athletic, they change their defenses all time to keep you on your toes and off balance," Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said.

"You have to intellectualize your attack at the perimeter positions. Dwyane is fantastic with that without even knowing it. He has a feel for it. And Mario's learning how to do it."

Miami had plenty of firepower without Wade.

The Heat outscored Denver 28-18 in the third behind Chalmers, Beasley, O'Neal and Richardson.

Chalmers went 3-for-3 in the third, beating Chauncey Billups on a reverse layup then following it with a 3-pointer to make it 63-42. Beasley added a 25-footer, and O'Neal a layup as part of a 12-2 run with 4:46 remaining.

"I've been watching a lot of film on Chauncey, trying to take some things from his game to add to my game. And I was just able to get it done tonight," Chalmers said.

Wade scored in double digits for the 100th consecutive time, finishing 6-of-17 from the field and 10-of-12 from the free throw line as the Heat shot 49 percent from the floor. Miami's defense was just as potent.

The Nuggets, who came in to the match-up averaging 115.4 points per game, went into an offensive slump.

They didn't score for a five-and-a-half minute period stretch that started in the second quarter and ended when Nene scored with 8:45 left in the third.

"'m not going to give anyone an 'A' on this one," said Nuggets coach George Karl, who remained tied with Red Auerbach for eighth on the NBA all-time coaching wins list with 938. "I think that we all have to be disappointed on how we showed up."

Carmelo Anthony, the NBA's second leading scorer behind Kobe Bryant, finished with 30 points.

The Nuggets got little from everyone else.

Arron Afflalo added 18 for Denver, and Nene and Ty Lawson each added 11.
