The Other Side Of Skateboarding

DORAL, FL (CBS4) ―

Seventeen-year old Michelle Blades is trying to dispel the misconceptions about skateboarding.  Blades has taken a behind the scenes role to show the other side of this sport.

"I like showing a good time, I like showing people how it happens, skateboarding kind of has a bad name to the older generation that don't know about it, they see it as a bad thing," said Blades.

Some of the stereotypes attached to skateboarders are reckless, grungy, and troublesome, that's why Blades takes her camera and captures a fun, welcoming world at MIA Skatepark in Doral.

"Everybody has a story, a reason why they skate, and want to get somewhere with it.  And with media, filming is the best way to show it to a large amount of people and that's why I do it," said the inspired skateboarder.

Through her lens, Blades has shown that the world of skateboarding is a fun one.

"Everybody here treats me with respect.  If they see something happening they help me.  I just like this place better than any other place," said skateboarder Andre "Chubs" Gomez.
