MIAMI (CBS4) ― Dwyane Wade was being doubled, so Udonis Haslem lent a helping lend.

Haslem hit a game-winning jumper with 15.4 seconds left, then helped make a defensive stop on the other side, as the Miami Heat beat the New Orleans Hornets, 102-101, on Sunday night.

Haslem's jumper was the second basket for the Heat in the final minute, and helped Miami overcome a poor start to the fourth quarter.

"I want to help my team win," Haslem said. "If taking the final shot one down, or with a tie score is what I have to do to make my team win then I'm going to take advantage of the opportunity."

That came after the Heat missed seven of their first nine shots in the fourth as they saw a 3-point lead turn into a one-point advantage for the Hornets. Bobby Brown connected on two free throws to give New Orleans its first lead since the second quarter.

Former Heat forward James Posey had two 3s and Peja Stojakovic hit a jumper in a back and forth fourth to keep the rally alive.

That's when Wade provided a boost. He hit two jumpers from deep to give the Heat a 98-95 lead, but was then doubled and trapped over the course of the final 3:44.

"We were trying to get the ball out of D. Wade's hands and make somebody else take shots, or make them take time off the shot clock and miss shots and get the rebound and go down and try to score," Posey said.

"We were able to take the lead. Then Udonis hit that shot. It was a tough shot. We gave ourselves a chance."

Haslem halted it. He hit a jumper with 45 seconds left to tie it at 100-all, then hit the off-balance shot to win it.

"A sniper. That's all I have to say about him," said Heat forward Michael Beasley, who finished with 17 points.

"You get him the ball and he's going to put it in the hole. He's just a reliable guy."

Miami had an 11-point lead late in the third, but couldn't hold off the Hornets' 10-0 run that made it a close game.

David West had a layup, and rookie Marcus Thornton hit a 3-pointer and a fastbreak layup to get within one, 84-83, with 13.3 left in the third.

Thornton led New Orleans with 24, and West added 13 points and nine rebounds. Darren Collison, playing in place of injured point guard Chris Paul, had 11 points on 3 of 12 shooting.

Wade sat out most of the first because of foul trouble, as did West and Hornets' starters Devin Brown and Emeka Okafor. Miami used a 57 percent shooting performance in the first half to go ahead, 59-52.

New Orleans were 53 percent from the field in the third, though, to come close.
