The SportsKids Living The Dream

DORAL (CBS4.com) ―

Take a trio of South Florida brothers who are nuts about sports, add in some big dreams and lots of persistence, and mix with a fresh approach to questions, and you have the latest members of the CBS4 Sports department, the Sports Kids.  They are Mikey, Pacey and Danny.

This group of Miami-Dade brothers snag exclusive interviews that other reporters with years on them haven't been able to get.

The Sportskids said it all began two years ago when their parents, who home-school the boys, gave them an assignment to write a sports story.

"So we actually had an idea: Why don't we start interviewing real people and so Jason Taylor who is a home-schooler, so that's how he gave us the interview and we been writing for the Herald ever since," said 13-year-old Danny.

What's more, these kids as questions adults would never think to ask, and the results can be very enlightening.

Mikey Neuman is 14 years old. His favorite teams are the Miami Heat, Chicago Cubs, Dallas Cowboys and Florida Panthers. He loves to play tennis and basketball. His favorite interview was Dwyane Wade. His favorite is his iPhone, his favorite book is To Kill a Mockingbird. He loves to eat pizza and cook and is the author of a small cookbook, Holy Food. Mikey says what he's loved learning from these interviews are… "These celebrities are normal people like the rest of us. All kids can grow up and be whatever they want to be just like any of these successful sports stars.

Pacey is 13 years old and his favorite teams are the New England Patriots and Phoenix Suns. His favorite sport is football and his favorite player is Tom Brady. His best interview was Evander Holyfield and his favorite memory of childhood is laying his head on his mother's arm. He loves eating sushi and his favorite book series is Pendragon. He's presently working on a documentary. Pacey says, "When you watch these sports stars, you can't imagine how normal they are. But so many of them overcame such hard problems and stayed strong. That part of them more than anything is inspiring."

Danny said his favorite team is the Minnesota Twins, Atlanta Falcons and Miami Heat. He loves to play tennis and ping-pong with his brothers. He enjoys writing more than anything and is editing his first science fiction manuscript. His favorite book is The Looking Glass Wars, his favorite movie is August Rush. His best interview was with Roger Federer. Danny says "I've really enjoyed interviewing these sports celebrities. I've learned how much they worked at getting to their high level of success and each of us can get there."
