Study: Florida Among States Facing Budget Disaster

When California began teetering on the verge of bankruptcy, many feared the financial collapse of the largest cog in the American economy could trigger a national financial meltdown worse than the U.S. was already experiencing. If a new study from the Pew Center on the States is right, it could be much worse because 10 states, including Florida, are at a grave risk of facing a budget disaster.

No New Taxes In Dade To Fix Budget Gaps

The Miami-Dade Commission refused early Friday morning to increase the county millage rate for 2009-2010, preventing an overall increase in the county tax rate but forcing millions of additional cuts in the Mayor's proposed budget, virtually assuring pay cuts for employees, even deeper cuts in county programs, and the elimination of tens of millions of dollars for community based organizations.
