It's Tax Day, Post Offices Open Late

MIAMI (CBS4) ― Several post offices across South Florida will have extended hours on Wednesday to help last minute tax filers get their returns in on time.

"People should know they have to have their returns filed by midnight tonight. We have several of our processing and distribution centers that will be open and we will have people out front collecting returns up until midnight," said Jann Miller, a postal manager for the South Florida district.

Taxpayers who are not quite ready must file for an extension before the midnight deadline and pay any estimated taxes they may owe. Taxpayers who miss the midnight deadline will face financial penalties.

"They must have the correct postage on, if they are not sure, they need to come inside and make sure the correct postage is on there," said Miller. "We also have automated postal facilities at many of our centers that are available to help expedite the process if they are paying by a credit or debit card," said Miller.

The following postal locations will have parking lot collections set up:
  • Fort Lauderdale Plant, 1900 West Oakland Park Blvd, Fort Lauderdale 33310
  • Miami GMF, 2200 NW 72 Avenue, Miami 33152
  • South Florida Plant, 16000 Pines Blvd, Pembroke Pines 33082
  • West Palm Beach Plant, 3200 Summit Blvd, West Palm Beach 33416
