South Florida's 'Miracle Baby' is finally home.
Amillia Sonja Taylor, who set the record for youngest preemie ever to survive less than 22 weeks in the womb was released from Baptist Children's Hospital on Wednesday.
Doctors had hoped to release Amillia Tuesday but kept her an extra day to monitor a low white blood cell count that could have indicated an infection.
Born last October, Amillia was only 9-and half inches and weighed less than 10 ounces when she was delivered. She also suffered respiratory and digestive problems, as well as a mild brain hemorrhage, which her doctors don't believe will have any long-term impact.
After four months in the hospital's neonatal intensive care unit, she was released to her parents, Eddie and Sonja, who live in Homestead.
Amillia will still require oxygen at home and a developmental specialist will follow up with her and her parents to track her neurological development.
Amillia was conceived in vitro and was delivered by Caesarean section after an infection caused her mother to go into premature labor, doctors said.
