Seinfeld Creates A Buzz At Cannes Film Fest
Bee Movie Opens Nov. 2, 2007
(CBS4)
DreamWorks Animation kicked off this year's Cannes Film Festival Thursday with comedian/filmmaker Jerry Seinfeld, the creator of DreamWorks Animation's upcoming fall release "Bee Movie", performing a stunt unparalleled in the history of the 60-year old international institution.
Tethered to a wire suspended from the roof of the world famous Carlton hotel, Seinfeld, dressed in a giant bumblebee suit and black tights, flew down over festival goers with arms and legs flailing as he coasted toward the beach.
And then he went back up and did it again.
Actor/Comedian Chris Rock, who also serves as a voice in the film, emceed the event from the end of the Carlton Pier, engaging Seinfeld in banter just prior to his descent.
The high flying stunt was an opportunity for Seinfeld to introducing his stingingly funny film at the Cannes Film Festival.
"Bee Movie" is DreamWorks Animation's latest film about a young bee who dreams of a better life.
Seinfeld spent the last four years writing the movie and giving voice to its leading man, Barry B. Benson, a young bee who dreams of life beyond the hive.
His character discovers that humans have stolen honey from bees through the ages, and he takes the human race to court to try to right the injustice.
Other voices include Chris Rock as a mosquito trying to avoid being squished on a car window; Oprah Winfrey as a judge; Renee Zellweger as a florist who befriends Benson; and Matthew Broderick as his best friend.
When asked what the movie was about Chris Rock joked:
"It's about birds... What do you think it's about... It's a freaking Bee movie... It's March of the Penguins, okay? Morgan Freedman is going to get married... What are you talking about? You're a professional journalist!" he joked.
