Hearing Rescheduled In Broward Homeless Beatings

New hearing date: January 5th, 2007

William Ammons, Brian Hooks, Thomas Daugherty charged with first-degree murder and attempted murder

All have pleaded not guilty
FT. LAUDERDALE (AP) ― The hearing for three teens charged in a series of attacks that killed a Fort Lauderdale homeless man and wounded two others has been rescheduled.

The judge scheduled the next hearing for January fifth for 18-year-olds William Ammons and Brian Hooks, and 17-year-old Thomas Daugherty.

The three are charged with first-degree murder and attempted murder and have pleaded not guilty.

Hooks and Ammons could face the death penalty if convicted. Daugherty is being tried as an adult but faces a maximum sentence of life in prison because of his age.

According to statements read in court, Ammons told detectives that he pelted Norris Gaynor with paintballs as he lay dying in January and clubbed another sleeping homeless man that same night with a golf club.
