POMPANO BEACH (CBS4) ― The reward fund for information leading to the arrest of the killer or killers' of slain BSO Sgt. Chris Reyka has grown to $267 thousand with donations from private individuals, businesses, and organizations including the Miami Dolphins and the Miami Heat.

The new $267,000 reward was officially announced Monday afternoon outside the Pompano Beach Walgreens where Reyka lost his life.

Some of the money comes from Heat Player Alonzo Mourning who was at Monday's news conference. He spoke about being a concerned citizen and simply wanting the violence to stop.

Despite the fact that Mourning doesn't live in Pompano Beach or even Broward County, he feels all of South Florida is a community and Sgt. Reyka was part of this community who worked diligently to keep the peace in this community.

Mourning also said he wants to bring attention and a create a sense of urgency about the increasing number of violent acts in our community. He went on to say it's a situation we cannot ignore and we need to come together as concerned citizens and stop the violence.

Members of the entire Miami Dolphins team also contributed to the increased reward fund.

BSO Sheriff Ken Jenne also attended the news conference and told reporters that investigators have received more than 2,500 leads and they've responded to more than 2,000 of them.

Jenne wants the public to know that the person who provides the critical tip that could crack this case won't be considered a snitch, but rather a hero.

Prior to Monday's announcement, the reward stood at $106,000 with help from a private citizen and the U.S. Marshals Office. A private citizen contributed $1 thousand dollars, and another private citizen contributed $10 thousand. The U.S. Marshals Office contributed $25 thousand to the fund.

$15 thousand dollars came from Crime Stoppers, $5 thousand dollars came from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and $50 thousand dollars comes from the FBI.

Sheriff Jenne thanked all law enforcement officials who are helping in this investigation.

"This community, the law enforcement community, the Broward Sheriff's Office, is not going to tolerate thugs in this community that think or imagine that they can assassinate our deputies." He went on to say that "we will find these people. There are a lot of good people in this community. Right now, what we are doing is asking people of Broward county and South Florida to come forth and give us information. We believe that this community does not want to tolerate this type of activity."

Deputy Reyka was shot and killed early Friday, August 10th making it the second shooting of a deputy in the county in the month of August.

Much of the investigation has focused on a white car with which the suspect or suspects are thought to have fled, but investigators have little details on the type and model, and no descriptions of the suspect inside.

It was described as an early '90s model white 4-door sedan with license plate number F16 8UJ.

If you'd like to report any information about a suspect or the suspect's vehicle, please call Broward Crime Stoppers at (954) 493-TIPS.
