NEW YORK (CBS4) ―
Heat superstar Dwyane Wade will be adding another award to his trophy case but this one has nothing to do with basketball.
Thursday afternoon, Wade will be among eight men honored at the 66th Annual National Father of the Year Luncheon in New York City.
The award, presented by the National Father's Day Committee, recognizes highly accomplished fathers who also show enormous achievements, as parents.
Wade, along with fellow sports honorees Tom Glavine of the New York Mets and Hulk Hogan of WWE fame, will be presented with Father of the Year trophies by MC Ozzie Smith, a Baseball Hall of Fame shortstop and a 1986 National Father of the Year.
The trio of sports figures will be joined by fellow winners Gen. George W. Casey, Jr., the current U.S. Army Chief of Staff; Former U.S. Senator John Edwards of North Carolina, who is now a Democratic candidate for President in 2008; Allen Sirkin, President & COO of Phillips-Van Heusen; Harry Smith, co-host of CBS-TV's "The Early Show;" and middle school principal Laurence Whitcomb of Great Valley, NY, who was named America's "Ashok Sani All-Star Dad" in a competition sponsored by the National Father's Day Committee, Men's Health magazine and the Sani Family Foundation.
Wade recently become a father for the second time when his wife, Siohvaughn, delivered their second son, Zion Malachi Airamis Wade.
Zion, born in Chicago, weighed 6 pounds, 11 ounces and measured 21 inches.
"We are very excited and blessed to welcome our second child into the world," the Heat guard said in a statement released by his publicist.
The couple's first child, Zaire, turned 5 in February.
Proceeds from the Father of the Year function will be donated to Save the Children's US Programs, which benefit almost 35,000 youngsters who live in areas of persistent rural poverty in America.
Previous Fathers of the Year from the world of sports have included Mel Ott, Mickey Mantle, George Forman, Patrick Ewing, Andy Pettitte, Jim Kelly, Joe Frazier and Boomer Esiason.
