POMPANO BEACH (CBS4) ―
Pilot Fred Cabanas is diving into the McDonald's Air and Sea Show, presented by CBS4, this weekend over Fort Lauderdale beach. That's because Cabanas is a pilot who specializes in thrilling the crowds with his daring dives and high-flying aerobatic maneuvers.
Cabanas performs air shows internationally in his Pitts Special S-2C and North American PG-51 Mustang. He'll be using both planes at this weekend's air show.
The Mustang weighs in at 8,300 lbs and has a top speed of 505 mph. The maneuvers will include a vertical roll, Loops, Cuban 8s and point rolls and high speed passes.
Fred started when he was only 16 years old and has more than 20,000 hours of total flight time.
The Mayor of Key West proclaimed Fred the General of the Conch republic Air Force in 1992 after he sighted and reported a defecting MIG flying in US airspace.
