Officials Intend To Expand I-95 Express Toll Lanes
by Evan Bacon
(CBS4)
The original plans to build express toll lanes on I-95 has taken a different direction, after officials proposed building double the amount of lanes at the cost of millions of tax dollars.
Originally transportation officials were going to convert the carpool (HOV) lanes in each direction into toll express lanes, for drivers who want to pay as much as 30 cents per mile, in order to whiz by stuck traffic on the regular lanes. However, their new plans call for two lanes in each direction of I-95, meaning they would have to expand the expressway. This would cost $200,000 in tax dollars, to build lanes that only drivers who can afford them could use.
For this reason a 'sound-off' hearing was held Thursday, however, an official public hearing is scheduled for later this summer.
