Karate Kid Raising Money For Afterschool Program

vm
HOLLYWOOD (CBS4) ― A pint sized South Florida karate kid is giving back to the community.

7-year old Joseph Alexander Terarutyunyan, from Dania Beach, hit the Broadwalk in Hollywood on Saturday. While most kids his age would be out in the beach playing, Terarutyunyan is on the beach in an effort to raise money for a Deerfield Beach after school program that teaches kids to stay out of trouble.

"I'm here to collect money for kids in trouble to get a van," says Terarutyunyan. "Because, I want them to not be bad and go in the street and stuff."

Terarutyunyan told CBS4 all the money he raises will go towards helping the after school program to buy a van or some sort of transportation.

In addition to asking beach goers for a dollar or two, Terarutyunyan, who has trained in Taekwondo and Kung Fu for the last two years, also performed a martial arts demonstration for donations.

Joseph's parents say he's even asked his family to donate the money they planned to spend on his Christmas gifts.
