Braddock Teacher Murdered In Miami Gardens

by Jawan Strader
MIAMI GARDENS (CBS4/MIAMI HERALD) ― Students at a South Florida high school were mourning the loss of their wood shop teacher, hours after he was shot dead in his driveway in Miami Gardens.

Lemroy Lemroy, 44, was killed at his home near Northwest 35th Avenue and 213th Street near the county line late Tuesday. Homicide detectives are investigating whether it was a robbery.

For the past 14 years, Lawrence had taught wood shop at G. Holmes Braddock Senior High in Kendall.

''He was just an all-around great guy,'' Principal Manuel Garcia told our news partners at The Miami Herald.

School administrators held an emergency meeting to tell staff. Grief counselors had also arrived to help students and teachers cope with his death.

According to the Herald, Lawrence was married with children.

Garcia described Lawrence as a popular teacher who also took part in the mentoring program for young black men 5,000 Role Models of Excellence Project.

''It's definitely a loss not only for our school but for his family and the community he lived in,'' Garcia said.
