Teen Arrested For Murder Of Braddock Teacher

Suspect is 17-year old Rubin Herrera Jiro III

Lemroy Lawrence was killed in his driveway last week

He was a woodshop teacher at G. Holmes Braddock High
MIAMI (CBS4 News) ― Police have made an arrest in the murder of popular woodshop teacher Lemroy Lawrence.

Police charged 17-year old Rubin Herrera Jiro III with first degree murder late Monday night. He will appear in court Tuesday afternoon.

Lawrence was shot and killed last week in the driveway of his Miami Gardens home. He had gone outside to retrieving some papers from his truck.

Detectives said Jiro "bragged to friends that he shot the victim,'' according to a Miami-Dade arrest report.

Lawrence was a popular woodshop teacher at G. Holmes Braddock High in West Kendall. He was also a mentor with the 5,000 Role Models of Excellence program, which is geared toward young black men at risk of dropping out of high school.

''It gives me a little piece of mind,'' Lawrence's widow, Giovanni, told our news partners at The Miami Herald.

The funeral for Lawrence takes place at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, October 14th at Glendale Baptist Church. The church is located at 14580 SW 117 Avenue in Southwest Miami-Dade.
